I just spontaneously remembered the taste of Ginger Ale & milk. Haven't had that since I was three feet tall and very much aware of the linoleum.
Lunch today was excellent. I drove around looking for a diner I'd heard of only to get lost and wind up near home after a brush with Vermont. Bought a wonderful meat-loaf sandwich from what I assume was a gigantic, friendly gay dude. He did a great job because I asked him to "Suprise Me!" on both the bread and cheese, which he did without so much as a flinch. Subway workers spazz out when you make this request. In my mind, this is the greatest test of a Sandwich Artist's character.
Also had a very good Vietnamese coffee at Haymarket. This will definitely be on my "Top 20 Legal Stimulants List 2004". Somehow two shots of espresso with sweetened, condensed milk tastes better when a friendly lady makes it for you.
Friendly ladies make everything better, except having to say goodbye.

There's a coffee shop here in san diego that features an iced vietmanese with 4, count em, *4* shots of esspresso.
This coffee shop is also the most successful coffee shop near the local university. I don't think this is ao coincidence.
It's like drinking a little sip of heaven.
